Agreed on all points (especially the Jubilee Cafe ).
What a great time. I can't remember laughing so hard almost the entire day.
It was great to finally get to play a round with the man, the legend, Chad Eng. What a great attitude that guy has. Every time he'd throw a bad shot (which wasn't very often) he'd bust out laughing! Which, of course, is the polar opposite of me when I throw a bad shot.
The courses were all fantastic (except for Washington which was still fun, although most of us were about shot by then). I have to agree with K.C. (damn I hate saying that) that Lake Eureka is an amazing course. Some of the coolest holes I've ever seen. Tough, but fair.
One thing that's really cool about a trip like this is being able to just hang out with all these guys (at one point there were 14 of us) and talk about disc golf. You can really learn a lot talking about technique, different discs, courses, everything disc golf.
Big props have to go out to K.C. for putting this together and for pulling it off. If you get a chance to go on one of these road trips (We're talking Des Moines next spring) you owe it to yourself to make it. _________________ "Determine that the thing can and shall be done, and then we shall find the way."

You must have played with a different Chad Eng than the one I know, also know as Chad "Yard Sale" Eng. _________________ Is this the line for the beer, or the line for the coupons for the beer? |

Yeah, *I* even laughed at that one, Brad. John must have not seen my article on Anger Management back in the day. I developed a bit of an anger control problem from disc golf and had to stop playing because I would blow serious gaskets out on the course, tear up scorecards and throw them at TDs, shred golf bags, fold up putters, punch trees, lay in traffic, verbally assault people who told me to tone it down (I've added considerable strokes to tournament rounds from courtesy violations), etc. I was baaaaaad.
but now that I don't care about my score, I actually enjoy playing again (the 10 times a year that I do it). So yeah, I don't expect to make putts where I can't touch the basket, and it makes it soo much easier to laugh when you air-mail an 8 footer. I simply don't care.
It's a freakin' game, people. relax. (I do still hate it when people say that though...) |

Yeah, I had a great time as well. I got to play with some people I've never gotten to before and it turned out great.
By the third round, I literally could not pick up my golf bag with my right arm. But you have to consider I've played like 10 rounds this year (maybe less), so three rounds basically killed me. However, for my dignity, I chose to play the fourth round at washington, which was a bad idea. Despite my back, knees, calves, feet, neck, elbow, and shoulder hurting beyond belief, there IS an upside - it hurts so bad to reach for my wallet, I've probably saved myself $50.
My whole body hates K.C. right now (maybe my left arm doesn't hate you completely), but I had a blast. And if I convince TJ to buy a Stratus, I'll consider my job complete. ha ha ha.
And I don't know where I got a legendary status from. It must come from NOT playing and only hearing stories told about things you've done. Ask any of the old-timers - Chase, Clark, Johnson, Mike, Chad, Luke - I'm a hack. I'm just there to make other people feel good about their game. Yeah, I've pulled off some miracle shots in my day, but no more so that these new guys are doing every week. I'm just glad to get out and play once a month.
Plus I ramble on and on occasionally, like a lot of old guys... like now... ha ha ha |

| Big thanks goes out to K.C. and anyone else who helped put this trip together. This was my first time doing something like this and it was a blast. It was awesome to just hang out with so many great guys all day and play some awesome courses. I can't wait to do something like this again next year! Also mad props to T.J. with the top round of -10 at Lake Eureka, sick! |

Phil and I tried our hardest to bring TJ down, but he wouldn't budge. But it seriously was nice to see somebody play that "lights out" on a tricky course.
Then we had to wait an hour for the old guys** to finish up, so the "young guys" threw about 300 drives into a field (while K.C. and I cried about how bad we hurt). It was fun to watch Robinson nay-say EVERY disc that Dan handed him. Dan: "This is the most stable disc in my bag." Robinson: "I just flipped it over into a roller. Your discs suck."
** Old guys:
Resch - 'cause he's old. Dirty old man kind of old. Resch rules.
Brad - sorry Brad, bald=old. (This coming from a flowing-haired viking)
Keppy - you lived in Arizona where the snowbirds go - you're old by default. |

I'm happy and excited everyone had a good time. Thats what its all about... I think I'd have enjoyed myself a bit more if I hadn't sucked so incredibly bad all day, but that was my biggest complaint. I heard good things about the courses, well...all except Washington, but I expected that one to be left out. And, they were all liked for different reasons.
If anything, thanks goes out to the Peoria crew for having those three (and more) great courses for us to check out. Lake Eureka is so unique, though, that I gotta give that course the credit it deserves. You just don't play courses like that every day. You could (legitimately) probably shoot -16, but you chould easily shoot +16 on ANY GIVEN DAY. IMO, not *many* courses can add or subtract strokes so readily.
I enjoyed Morton a whole lot more this weekend than I have in the past, for some reason. Numbers 5, 8, and 18 have always been highly regarded...but I enjoyed most all of it this time. (Maybe I really am just getting old.)
McNaughton is just a great course. I really do enjoy it from the longs more than the shorts, so I'm glad we played it that way. I don't know how you could NOT like that course, though, its just a classic.
It WAS a great experience, though. I knew Eng, Wes, and I had played those courses before. But, the reactions to the courses was awesome by those that hadn't. I actually took pride in THAT, not in the planning and/or anything else.
According to Dan, I do have all the score cards (hopefully mine were conveniently lost). When I get some time, I'll post the scores so everyone can laugh at Eng and I.
Next up: Des Moines (I'll be getting a hold of you, Wood, so start building some guest rooms.) |

PICTURES!
After a long day of unfamiliar courses, its hard to remember each hole and distinguish the different parks... so I posted course pictures for the first two courses of the day: McNaughton and Northwood. They're old pictures from my crappy camera, but they still provide 1000 words (or less). Unfortunately I don't have everyones boner course, Lake Eureka - the first 6 holes there are incredible! Then it gets repetitive but I guess that's a good thing if they're incredible.

49 was the hot round at Washington? Jeez, how many beers did you guys drink?
44 is smoking at Eureka. Best I have seen is a 42. Eureka is a sweet course, I don't play there enough. _________________ Professional Plastic Stacker and Amateur Disc Golfer
