We had six colleges competing for those two seeded spots to the Nationals in April and nine teams total. In order of finish: #1- Iowa State, #2- UNI, #3-Kansas State, #4- IHCC, #5- Mt. Mercy U, and #6- U of Iowa. On Friday before the tournament, we held two warm up events at Wildwood Park. The Distance Contest was won by Jake Lauber of ISU with a throw of 455 ft 8 inches. The Putting Contest was won by Adam Padget of ISU with a putt of 50 feet. Both won $35 gift cards from HyVee. The second place finishers were Derek Craff of IHCC & Jake Lauber of ISU. They received #25 gift cards from Walmart. Joey Lane of ISU won third place on both events and received two new Neutron Midrange discs donated by 18 under par disc golf (Tom Cremer). Saturday was two rounds of doubles - Memorial Park in the morning and IHCC in the afternoon. UNI held a one stroke lead over K-State and three over ISU after the doubles. Sunday was two rounds of singles - Memorial Park followed after lunch by IHCC. ISU came roaring back in the first round at Memorial to beat UNI by 14 strokes. UNI and K-State took back a few strokes in the afternoon round, but ISU held on for a 11 stroke victory. Joey Lane of ISU won the Medalist trophy with a singles two round total of 108 on a 55 par set up, -2 for the day. It was a little disappointing that IHCC didn't get one of the top two spots, but is is really good to know that ISU and UNI played very well and Region #3 will be well represented at the Nationals. A special Thank You goes out to all of our sponsors and the following for all they do for us: IHCC President - Dr. Jim Lindenmeyer, Dr. Victor Streeby - Sponsor of the IHCC Disc Golf Club and teams, IHCC Buildings & Grounds and Security, Gene and Chris @ the Ottumwa Parks Dept., Ina & Daniell @ HyVee North & South, Michael & Shelly @ Walmart, Dick Langford @ HyVee Drug Town, and Bob Kramer & Tom Cremer. Thank you to all the players who came to play our challenging courses. I hope that you can come back again. I hope that some of the other colleges who inquired but didn't get to come this year will get to come next year. Next year should be more fun yet. TD - Dave Cecil
