Iowa Team Tournament Rules - 2013 Quad Cities

Postby Sprague » Wed Mar 06, 2013 6:51 pm

Captains: Please submit your team rosters Friday 3/22/13
If you are unsure if someone is eligible to play for your team due to geographic restrictions please contact me and we can discuss it. My goal is to have as many teams as possible (12 Limit). I do want to avoid bringing in ringers, but we can look at each request on a case-by-case basis.

1st Round - Doubles

-Group your team into 4 seeds (2 players each) A/B/C/D

12 holes - Best Disc* - Designated holes
12 holes - Best Shot - Designated holes

*Best Disc (play singles, take the best score)

2nd Round - Quad City Doubles

-Group your team into 2 seeds (4 players each) A/B
--Each seed will have two doubles teams A1/A2 and B1/B2

12 Holes (shortened for speed of play)

Example of play (picture regular alternate shot rules with doubles teams)
1. A1 team tees on hole 1
2. A2 team chooses the best shot and throws from there.
3. A1 throws next.
4. Continue alternating until the hole is complete.
5. A2 team tees on hole 2.
6. Continue alternating teeing order (6 tees shots for each team).

3rd Round - Full Team Alternate Shot

Singles Alternating Play - Captains select as they go until all players have thrown, and then the order resets.

Number of holes TBD prior to the event.
We will establish a pre-determined shortening of the course at set times.
-We will consult with the Team Captains in advance to make sure the cutoff times are acceptable (Remember the first Rumble at West Lake - we need a contingency plan).

Scoring

-Each seed will compete against each City Team within that seed.
-Scores will be recorded into a spreadsheet.
-Points will be awarded for each team beat or tied during that round.
-Every seed begins the round with points equivalent to beating 1 team.

Round 1
.5 Points per team beat
With 12 teams: Winning the first round outright is worth 6 points (11 Teams beat)
(.5pts + 5.5pts = 6pts)
If a City Team wins all 4 seeds outright = 24pts.

Round 2

1 Point per team beat
With 12 teams: Winning the second round outright is worth 12 points (11 Teams beat)
(1pt + 11pts = 12pts)
If a City Team wins both seeds outright = 24pts.

Round 3
2 Points per team beat
With 12 teams: Winning the third round outright is worth 24 points (11 Teams beat)
(2pt + 22pts = 24pts)
If a City Team wins the third round = 24pts.

If a City Team wins all three rounds outright/outright = 72pts

Captains: You can regroup your team prior to the start of round 2. Seed A1 tees on 15,17,etc. A2 tees on 16,18a,etc. B1 tees on 4,6,etc. B2 tees on 5,7,etc.

Posted this on the other thread, but didn't receive enough dissenting posts so I know it must have been overlooked.

question on 3rd round:
so as a team we will play alternate shot, each team member will take a turn at alternating and then we can switch the rotation? is that how that works? will 2 teams play in a group of 16 then? just trying to visualize this.

Thanks Chris! Team Cool is looking forward to playing!! 8) 8)

Yes to all questions.

We could have 4 teams on a card if day light permitted and it would play like a singles foursome with a huge gallery.

Look forward to having you!

No.

Same as last year.

Captains can adjust team roster between 1st and 2nd round - this will allow some strategy and flexibility.

Tanner let me know if you have any specific thoughts (maybe I'm overlooking something)

Geographic restrictions follow past guidelines - if a team has a special request, we'll look at each case individually (Good luck on your new team)!

In round two, so both A1 players tee off, then the A2 players decide which shot to take and shoot the second shot, then the A1 players do the same, repeat order till hole is done. Next hole, A2 tees off and the tees alternate also. Cool, do both putts have to go in?

I just answered my question on the putts, just one, the best shot. Duh.

Tie breakers?

Tie breakers?

Depends on daylight.

I can envision a soccer style putt off if we are running out of daylight.

or

Sudden Death.

or

Full Team CTP throw off (Points awarded accordingly)
This scenario just occurred to me - need to think it through a little more, but it's intriguing.

The Team CTP throw off:

3 columns on paper
-1st column Team 1
-2nd column Points (1 through 16 descending)
-3rd column Team 2

Put an x in the column of the team closest (1pt), x in the column of the second closest (2pts), etc, etc until all of the shots are accounted for - add up the total.

Lowest score wins.

Cool idea - not sure if we'll go that route in the event of a tie. Might be some cool side action during break though!

Chris,
Thanks for asking but I don't think muscatine will be trying to put a team together this year. We have had a ton of growth here with the club, I only expect more growth this coming year. Hopefully we can participate next year.
