NIACC Baskets

Postby calvarycoffee » Tue May 15, 2007 4:11 pm

We have 2 baskets offically up. They are chainstars.

The original design was an 18 hole championship caliber course with america's only 1,000ft hole (that is what i am told).

I don't know what happened, or who decided it, but it's been down graded to 2 "horseshoe" style holes. :x

They are both located South West of the dorms. One is by the sidewalk and the other is closer to the pond. The pond basket is quite lower in elevation than the top basket. they are a little over 100ft apart

The groundskeeper and I slipped away from work and "tested" them out. luckily i had a few Wizards in my car. :D

Hopefully, If students show interest in the 2 baskets, we can make a case for a full 9 or 18 holes.

there is rumor of a modified 9 hole course around the NE pond.

I'm guessing that by now there are other holes over 1000 ft. but that hole was sweet with a corn field on the left and prairie grass and a pond on the right. It's very disappointing to me what has become of this course since I was one of the ones that helped with the championship layout. Like you said Dave, hopefully something more will come out of this. This course could have been something special and put North Iowa up there with all the other great areas Iowa has for disc golf but it looks like we will remain a bunch of 9-hole courses in city parks for awhile longer.

yeah, I'm quite positive the Winthrop "gold" course in Rock Hill, SC has at least 1 if not something like 3 or 4 holes over 1,000 ft.

Winthrop Gold has two par 5 holes that are 1,053' and 901'. When I played there in 2002, there was a 1,200' hole.

I'm sure the Fly 18 courses will have multiple 1000'+ holes.

I don't know how much interest one should expect with two baskets 100' apart. Sounds like an awesome backyard for a dg junkie, but not at all effective for attracting new recreational players or testing interest level.

I know the feeling, my pic of choice is too big also. I am working on making it smaller. I love Fireworks.
